Performance: inkBoat presents Clouds from a Crumbling Giant
Clouds from a Crumbling Giant lingers in the spaces of time between human incarnations, the broken and boundless bodies. Within the waiting room of the afterlife, consciousness folds in upon itself as a group of wandering souls re-enact their corporeal memories.
inkBoat, founded in 1998, continually invites in the collaborative voices of artists who meet in uncertain territories. The company brings together disparate backgrounds in Noh Theater, Corporeal Mime, Butoh Dance, Physical Theater, and unconventional orchestrations involving acoustic instruments, sound design and nostalgic wonderment.
Shinichi Iova-Koga directs this rumination on being and non-being in collaboration with Dana Iova-Koga, Jubilith Moore, Elke Luyten, Cass Tunick, Dan Cantrell, Adria Otte and Shahzad Ismaily.
This showing is part of a development process that will manifest as a complete work entitled Embers and Clouds in San Francisco this April 30 - May 3, 2026.

How do I join the Hudson Valley CI WhatsApp group?

Dance events that do not center CI and are outside of this radius should not be posted.
Can I bring my kid/s?
Kids are magical beings and we welcome them. If you bring yours, please stay near them and make sure they are safe and respectful of all jam guidelines.
I haven't done Contact Improv in 20 years! Is this jam right for me?
We invite dancers/humans of all levels of experience and types of ability to this jam. We trust you to know your limits and we encourage you to observe and rest as you'd like. If you have questions or need help, please feel free to approach Leah or anyone else that looks open to offering support.
I've never done CI and barely know what it is. How can I participate?
Absolute beginners should let the host know that they are new to the form so that proper support and guidance can be provided. You are welcome to watch for the first jam, if you'd like, or if you'd like to join in, we will make sure you are buddied up with someone who can show you some basics. Witnessing other dancers is always welcome and is a valued contribution to the dance environment.
Is the studio accessible by wheelchair?
Unfortunately, it is not. Please email us to let us know how we can best make your attendance possible and comfortable.

Being A Body, Retreat @ Groundworks
Join us once again at Groundworks in the Hudson Valley for a lush weekend of movement and creative practice. Being A Body is a series of intentional offerings inspired by seasonal shifting - and designed to meet the people who fill the room, as well as the broader context of our collective experience. Through various movement classes and creative offerings, participants are invited into deeper intimacy with themselves, with each other, and with the fabric of the surrounding landscape. As your facilitators, we uphold an opt in / opt out structure, allowing participants to take as much space as they need as they move through the weekend. We are interested in play, connection, physicality, and rest - and how each season mentors our minds and bodies, and stewards the way we see, think, and move. Come for ecosomatic and dance-inspired practice, creative exercises, access to sauna and cold plunging, and lots of space to wander, explore, rest, and settle - however you feel moved to do so.
Your facilitators — Charlotte Stickles, Maddie Leonard-Rose, and Sayer Mansfield— are seasoned creative and somatic professionals with years of experience working in embodiment, connection and care.

The Secrets of Contact Improvisation
The Secrets of Contact Improvisation Dance workshop with Jacob Combe
RAWdance Performance @ Jane St. Art Center
RAWdance will be using the residency time to explore the early seeds of a brand new work, “Echo,” a dance installation project that will premiere in fall 2026 through a residency commission from San Francisco’s 836M Gallery. The work draws its inspiration from the tragic Greco-Roman myth of Narcissus and Echo, in which the cursed Echo is able only to repeat the last words uttered to her, and the beautiful Narcissus dies after becoming obsessed with his own reflection. The tale feels freshly resonant in our current era of proliferating reflective technologies, from social media algorithms to AI feedback loops, that center a user’s data, patterns, belief systems, and desires. “Echo” asks: how do these multiplying reflections and refractions shape the way we see ourselves and each other? In this initial phase at Jane St. Art, the company will begin playing and exploring ideas, working towards honing the direction of the fall’s creative process.

In OSF classes we enter a creative process; letting go of outer layers of holding to find primal energy and ease. Guided by embodied imagery as a powerful tool for transformation we’ll learn to move with agility, transparency and depth. Through alignment studies/bodywork, movement exploration and group improvisation we’ll cultivate a deep connection to our inner and outer environments. A remarkably effective and revolutionary way of learning, the OSF approach can catalyze learning and transformation in many kinds of practices, in development of movement technique, and in daily life. All abilities, emotions and movement experience levels welcome.
Workshop: Poetics of Action with Shinichi, Cass, & Shahzad
Poetics in Action is a workshop in improvisation based in the radical theater and movement innovations of Ruth Zaporah. We ignite our awakened physical body to express heightened experiences of imagination (with depth, precision, and delight). We work intimately with physicality, sound, and language. Deep play structures expand awareness, our dreamtime, our openness, our ability to move with the unknown. We explore solo and ensemble scores that reveal relationships between being and action, form and feeling, power and humor.
